It occurred to me that while I couldn't rec any hd_holidays fics to avoid the appearance of favoritism, I CAN rec the one written for ME!!! The other mods were evil and refused to let me read it until it was posted the the comm. *pouty face* Even though I know who wrote it, I can tell you the author knows what I like and did an awesome job. I only wish it was LONGER. It really needs to be longer! The plotline is incredible and OMG I love twisty plots and amazing new spells. This one contains a fabulous plot twist and the author has semi-promised to write more in this world, so please give her heaps and heaps of praise and beg her to do so after the reveals. The fic is The Momentum of Volition and it's only 5k. (Needs to be longer. Tell her.) :D

As you know, it's been too damned hot for me to write for more than ten minutes at a time without wandering off to locate a margarita or an ice bath, so I finally broke down and cracked open a BOOK.  *gaspity*  Yes, one of those things made of paper.  That you hold in your hands.  I won't even tell you how long this has been sitting on my shelf waiting for me to crack the cover.

Anyway, I am filled with such fangirly squee for this book that I absolutely had to recommend it.  It's called Psycop and it's by Jordan Castillo Price.  I love the main character, Victor, who you just want to snuggle from the first page because OMFG he needs someone to take care of him!  Enter Jacob, who is made of 100% sexy GUH.  The plotline is riveting and the secondary characters (even the GIRLS - for me, this is a miracle) are awesome.  This was such a fun ride I found myself thinking about it all day and couldn't wait to dive back into their fabulous world.

But wait, it gets better!  While stalking the author online I discovered she has a Livejournal account!  *happy flail*  And she is the nicest person ever!  I friended her immediately and promised to squee about this, because IT GETS EVEN BETTER!  She's written a whole damn slew of them!!!!  I'm reading the second book and I'm already gnawing my nails down worrying about Victor, who has a knack for getting into trouble.  I'm hoping Jacob has to rescue him A LOT.  (Oh yes, there are enough NC17 scenes to keep you porn lovers very happy.  I had to hose myself down after the "up against the window" scene.  *dies*)

I could flail on about this for another ten pages, but instead I'll just link you to the website and the author's awesome LJ and the free sci-fi book she is offering up.  Anyway, I highly recommend this series.  It's fluffy enough to make me ecstatic, but edgy enough that you angst-lovers will be satisfied, as well.  A truly worthy read.
