Equity Part Forty Six
Mar. 2nd, 2010 09:07 pmI'm a bit behind! DOH!
Stephen pulled the Audi into a parking spot that looked safe enough from random scratches and door dings. He was oddly nervous about hearing Adam sing tonight. What if he was terrible? Then Stephen would have to smile and lie and tell him he was wonderful while secretly nudging him into a different profession. Something more aunt-approved...
He scowled at the thought as he shut off the engine and opened the door. His aunt had been gone after he had returned from dropping off Adam, the coward. Granted, it had taken Stephen longer than anticipated, due to his inability to let Adam exit the car without seventeen minutes of erotic kissing. He chuckled at the memory of Adam's dazed smile when he finally--finally--got out of the car and stood at the curb to watch until Stephen drove out of sight. Stephen didn't think anyone had ever done that for him before.
Damn, but he was turning into a romantic sap.
Hedon was a modern club, loud and flashy, with too many lights and too much glitter for Stephen's taste. He had only been inside twice, both times with visiting clients that wanted a taste of the local night life. The drinks were weak, but the food was good.
There was a short line at the door and he pulled out his wallet when he reached the attendant. He slid his ID across the counter and the man only glanced at it before returning it and refusing the twenty Stephen had offered. He signaled a nearby waiter. "No cover charge necessary, Mr. Hudson. If you will follow Emil, he will seat you."
Stephen put his wallet away with a bemused smile, feeling a bit tickled at being given preferential treatment. Adam was taking his presence seriously, it seemed. He was led to a seat near the stage, which was empty but for a drum set, a microphone, and a large selection of taped-down cords. Stephen ordered a drink and the appetizer assortment plate.
Before he had time to take more than one sip of his drink, the lights dimmed and a spot lit the stage. A flashily dressed man introduced "the musical talents of Adam Cole" in a radio announcer sort of voice and then the lights went out completely.
A purplish glow gradually lit the stage from below, catching on swirls of mist from an unseen fog machine. A familiar pair of legs came into view, clad in unfamiliar black jeans that hugged every curve. One leg moved in time with a thumping beat that reverberated through the room, beginning low and increasing in both volume and tempo.
The lights rose to fully disclose Adam. His hips were wrapped with a diamond-plated silver belt and he wore a simple bright blue tank top. A black and silver bracelet on his right arm matched his belt. His hair had been gelled into tousled peaks and his smile was brilliant. He stared straight at Stephen and the grin became heart-stopping. And then Adam winked.
Stephen smiled back, unable to stop himself. He did not even need to hear Adam sing; he couldn't possibly want him more than he already did.
Scattered applause and whistles died away and then Adam began to sing.
