Stephen wrapped his arms around Adam and held him closely for long minutes, until he realized he was actually clinging to the man, something he had never done. He was not normally a cuddler, preferring to roll away and fill the air with uncomfortable silence until his latest fuck got the hint and departed. Either that or he would be the one to leave the bed immediately and escape. This, however, was Adam, and the minutest shift caused his arms to tighten around Stephen's back, holding him in place.
"Stay," Adam whispered into his hair, causing his heart to give a strange flutter and a soft smile to curve his lips.
"All right," he said, surprising himself with his easy capitulation. He never spent the night. Not ever. Not even if he was too drunk to drive. He would always call a cab, if necessary, but now... Well, Adam was different. For the first time, he didn't want to leave.
"Probably should clean up before we fall asleep," Adam mumbled.
"Mmmmhmmm," Stephen agreed languidly, but he was far too comfortable to consider moving.
"Or we could just stay here."
Forever, Stephen thought and let himself drift toward sleep, feeling happier than he had in a very long time.

He wasn't quite as happy when he awakened the next morning feeling gritty and still-tired. Adam's bed was relatively comfortable, but Stephen was not used to sleeping anywhere but on his own custom-selected mattress.
He eased out from beneath Adam's arm, trying not to awaken him. After leaving the bed, he readjusted the blankets to cover Adam's sleeping form, smiling softly at his tousled black hair and outflung limbs.
Adam's shower had pathetic water pressure, but the tub was clean, as were the near-threadbare towels that haphazardly decorated the metal towel bars. He felt much better after a hot shower and walked back to the bedroom clad only in a towel.
Adam hadn't stirred. According to the bedside clock, it was still early, not quite 7am. Stephen gathered his clothing and returned to the bathroom to dress, shamelessly checking out the products scatter over Adam's counter top. The medicine cabinet was nearly barren, revealing only a bottle of Tylenol, shaving cream, a fancy razor, a box of bandaids, toothpaste, and an assortment of cologne.
Adam's toothbrush rested in a ceramic holder that resembled a colorful jumping fish. Hair products were scattered near it, all over the counter--brushes, mousse, gel, and combs. It was obvious what Adam spent the majority of his time on during his toilette.
Stephen borrowed a comb and styled his hair with a few swipes, allowing it to air dry. Adam was still asleep when Stephen poked his head into the bedroom, so he collected his car keys and went out.
Even the fact that he was such a sound sleeper was adorable. Stephen thought he might be turning into a bit of a romantic sap.
