Equity Part Twenty Seven
Jul. 6th, 2009 09:43 amSorry, I've been neglecting them again.
Adam went home and tried to clean his apartment. It was definitely not as neat as Stephen's gorgeous house, which made him feel somewhat self-conscious. What if Stephen should happen to drop by? Disregarding the fact that he had no idea where Adam lived, of course. In truth, he merely wanted to keep busy and not think about what Stephen might have done once he ushered Adam out. Did he have another date?
By late afternoon, his apartment was relatively clean and he had run out of energy. He sprawled on his secondhand couch and stared at the ugly light fixture on the ceiling. He wondered if Stephen would call. If so, would it look pathetic for Adam to be sitting at home, waiting for him to call? He should probably go out and pretend to be having a good time, acting like last night was no big deal.
Stephen had seemed so serious about the whole taking it slow issue that Adam was afaid his eagerness might have scared him away.
Shit. If nothing else, he should at least get up and go track down some food. His cupboards were pretty much empty, as usual, unless he wanted to eat Nilla Wafers and a can of chili for dinner. He absently wondered how Nilla Wafers would taste dipped in chili and nearly convinced himself to open the can and give it a try, except that he thought about Stephen eating such a meal and had to laugh. Not Mr. Bank Manager. He would probably whip up some homemade gourmet version good enough to serve in a five star restaurant.
Adam sighed when he realized his half-hearted attempt at being derisive toward Stephen had backfired. He admired the man too much to think badly of him, even in a small way. Last night--well, this morning, really--had been... simply amazing. Adam was almost alarmed at how badly he wanted to see Stephen again. He had half-hoped that having sex with the blond would cure some of his obsessive desire, but it had only made it worse. He wanted to install himself in Stephen's bed and never leave.
He groaned and threw an arm over his eyes. Stephen wasn't going to call. It was too soon, anyway. Even if Stephen planned to call him, he certainly wouldn't do it today. It would make him look too eager. It would go against the Man Code. Adam sneered. He never had much use for the Man Code.
Chili and Nilla Wafers. He might start a new trend.

Stephen sat on the couch and flipped through the channels on his remote without seeing any of the images that popped up on the screen. His thoughts were on Adam.
He should have given Adam a better explanation this morning. He had recognized the hurt, quickly masked, and it surprised him that he could read the man so well already. Then again, Adam might act like a tough guy with his motorcycle and leather jacket, but Stephen suspected he was very sweet underneath his would-be-rockstar exterior.
And the sex had been incredible. Stephen could not remember the last time he'd been so thoroughly pounded into the mattress. It seemed ludicrous now that he had once expected Adam to be passive.
He got to his feet and walked to the kitchen where he stood in front of the refrigerator for long minutes until he realized he had no idea what he was looking for. He kept remembering Adam bending over to grab a beer. Damn, but that boy had a delicious body.
He slammed the fridge door shut with an oath and stalked over to his cell phone. He flipped it open and speed-dialed the number.
"Adam? Did you eat yet? No? Want to grab a burger or something? I'll pick you up."
Stephen quickly jotted down the address on a nearby Post-it pad. "Great! I'll see you in a few." He hung up the phone and headed for the garage, already looking forward to seeing Adam again.
