Twinsensibility Part Twelve

Lily cradled the moss-covered rocks in her shirt and crept through a back hallway as silently as possible. She mentally cursed Hugo for demanding the ridiculous things in return for that little favour he had done her. She still had no idea why they needed to be gathered on a Wednesday beneath a full moon. It was probably some stupid rule he had made up in order to make it more difficult for her.
She heard low voices and flattened herself against the wall, looking for a place to hide. Bollocks! There was nothing in sight except some rubbish potted plant. She sidled that way anyway, hoping it wasn’t Filch and that blasted cat.
She waited, heart pounding, but the voices came no nearer. When boredom overcame her fear, she pushed away from the wall and tiptoed down the hallway to peer bravely around the corner.
To her surprise, no caretaker or wandering teacher occupied the dark corridor. In fact, it was someone she knew. She let out a relieved breath and moved to step out and identify herself, but something about their pose made her hold her peace.
She frowned. Lorcan and Lysander Scamander were arguing, something they seldom did at the worst of times. Lysander was almost ridiculously easygoing. Lily had given up pranking him when nothing she did had ever gotten a rise out of him. He always just grinned at her and said, “Good one, Lils,” which made her feel like shit for messing with him.
She didn’t quite dare to mess with Lorcan. There was something… dangerous that lurked in those eyes. She knew it even when they were out of sight behind his ever-present Muggle sunglasses.
Lysander hissed at Lorcan. One hand wrapped in the front of Lorcan’s shirt and he tugged sharply to emphasize whatever he had said. Lily strained her ears, but could not make out the words. She saw Lorcan’s jaw tense and knew that if anyone but Lysander had made such a motion, they would be hexed into something unrecognizable.
Lorcan’s mouth twisted and he muttered something almost certain to be sarcasm. Lily grinned. Lorcan was wicked with a wand, but his sharp tongue was definitely his best weapon. She envied it, at times.
Lysander laughed, a husky, odd-sounding chuckle that made the breath catch in her throat. There was something unsettling about it. Lysander moved forward and Lorcan backed away, almost as if he were afraid of his twin. The hallway was tiny, more of a passageway than a corridor, and Lorcan did not go far before his back pressed flat against the stone wall.
Lily wondered if she should drop the rocks and fumble for her wand. If they were going to fight, she should probably stop them before they drew attention and got them all in trouble. She needed to cut through the passage to get the infernal stones to Gryffindor Tower.
She nearly dropped the rocks anyway, but not intentionally. Her jaw gaped as Lysander kept on, pressing himself fully against Lorcan. He released Lorcan’s shirt only to reach up and push both hands into his brother’s hair. In the next instant, Lysander crushed his mouth against Lorcan’s.
Lily was too shocked to gasp and instead waited for Lorcan’s explosion. She assumed the blond would shove his brother aside and hiss at him in those scathing tones he used when he was really enraged.
Instead, Lorcan groaned and wrapped his arms around Lysander tightly, pulling him closer and returning the kiss with more passion than Lily had ever seen him exhibit. They kissed like they were starving for each other. Lorcan’s hands wandered down and gripped Lysander’s arse, and Lysander half-straddled him. It was obvious this was not the first time they had been in such a position. Lily should have been horrified, but she could not seem to tear her eyes away. The twins were intense beyond comprehension. She watched until she felt like a disgusting voyeur, and then she backed around the corner and leaned against the wall until her heart returned to a normal rhythm.
She coughed lightly and juggled the rocks in her shirt, hearing them clack together with just enough noise for the twins to hear. She made walking sounds and then nonchalantly rounded the corner. The twins stood side by side, panting slightly. Lorcan’s hair was mussed unbelievably and the bulges in their trousers were unmistakable even in the near-darkness.
“Hey, guys, fancy meeting you here,” she said lightly.
“Lily. You’re a long way from the Slytherin dungeon,” Lysander said.
“Going to give these to Hugo,” she replied and walked by them. “Good luck getting to… wherever you’re going.” As she wandered down the hallway and quickened her steps, she decided she didn’t really want to know where they were going.
“’Night, Lils,” Lysander called pleasantly.
