I don't rant very often, but after spending AN HOUR AND A HALF trying to track down absent participants, I'm in a bloody froth of annoyance.
TO ALL FEST PARTICIPANTS IN ALL FESTS there is a word listed below that you need to learn the meaning of. I have helpfully included it for you. This word is:
dead·line
–noun
If you cannot manage to make your deadlines, PLEASE TO BE LETTING THE MODS KNOW. How hard is it? Bloody hell, why do people sign up for things and then flake, flake, flake? I understand if your computer blows up or a volcano shoots ash all over your house and you can't manage to get to a computer to let the mods know, but the odds of this sort of thing happening to eight people at once are fairly high.
I think what really burns me is the lackadaisical attitudes that have provided such lovely comments like, "It's only fanfiction" and "But posting doesn't start until June 1st". Honestly, if you can't respect the fact that the mods have lives, jobs, families, and their own personal crises to deal with, and yet are spending hours and hours of their own precious free time for your entertainment, do us all a favour and DON'T SIGN UP FOR FESTS. JUST DON'T DO IT.
To all the people that request extensions, thank you for letting us know prior to your deadline! We understand that shit happens. Cars and computers stop working, or the muse takes a vacation to Jamaica. If this happens, please contact your mods and keep them posted. It's the complete lack of contact that is frustrating and time-consuming. (And if you need more than two extensions, be honest and let them know if the fic is simply not going to happen. Stretching the "maybe" into posting date territory makes us cry.)
End rant. Back to coaxing people out of the wordwork to beg for statuses. *sigh*
PS (OMG PINCH HITTERS I LOVE YOU SO SO HARD YOU HAVE NO IDEA.)
